• Explain what 'incapacity' is and set out principles for those authorised to act on behalf of someone with incapacity
• Outline who is considered not to have capacity and the provisions made for those acting on their behalf
• Provide a framework for safeguarding the welfare and managing the finances of adults who lack capacity
• Explain the term 'proxy' as someone who has been authorised to act on behalf of an adult with incapacity
• Define the legal responsibilities of proxies and make sure they remain within the codes of practice
